El- Bayada Island Case, in which Dr. Youssef Wali, The Former Deputy Prime Minister and The Former Minister of Agriculture and the Famous Businessman/ Hussein Salem and others
After the fall of former president/ Hosni Mubarak's regime and its figures after 25th of January 2011 Revolution, accusations were successive against figures of that regime. Among those accusations, the famous case known in media as "Al Bayada Island Case". Public Prosecution accused Dr. Youssef Wali (former deputy prime minister - and former minister of agriculture) and the famous businessman/ Hussein Salem and others- of unduly facilitating the acquisition of a plot of land near Al Bayada Island of 36 acres and 18 carats and 20 shares, as funds owned by the State with the intention of possession. The land is considered a nature reserve in Luxor governorate. In addition, he was accused that being former deputy prime minister and minister of agriculture at that time, he could unduly gain in favor of others the right of profit and benefitted from one of his tasks to do that. Besides, he intentionally damaged funds and interests of the State through letting businessman Hussein Salem among others to possess Al Bayada Island Land with a value less than its market value upon time of submission in 2000, with an amount close to EGP 800 million. Dr. Youssef Wali was sentenced for ten-year imprisonment. He appointed Dr. Mohamed Hamoda to take proceedings of challenge by appealing against the ruling. Dr. Mohamed Hamoda submitted a memorandum of challenge grounds. After a plea that lasted for a number of hours before the Court of Cassation, the court ruled to overturn the ruling issued against Dr. Youssef Wali and to return the case to the Criminal Court to hold the trial for him again.
